The first Naturpedic mattress we purchased was their basic model crib mattress which is waterproof on both sides. We loved this mattress as it is not too soft nor too firm. After almost 3 yrs of use, it is like brand new. It never had an odor.
We recently purchased the Ultra 2 in 1 model mattress (waterproof on one side and quilted cotton on the other side) as well as the boxspring for a full size bed. While the construction seems like good quality, both the mattress and boxspring have a strong odor. It is not a vinyl-like odor but still quite unpleasant; we think it may be coming from the outer cotton layer. We tried airing them out with the windows open which really didn't help. We then left them in a covered area outdoors for 3 weeks after which we put them in our child's room. Now the entire room smells and we will be moving them elsewhere for storage as we cannot subject our child to this odor. We suspect it would take months to truly air out this product in order not to affect the air quality. We do NOT recommend this mattress model to other parents.

The mattress we bought for AppleBlossom is awesome too, and I'm hard pressed to say if I had to buy a third one (doubtfully!!) which I would buy again, because I love them both for different reasons. I love this mattress. It is really quite comfy (and makes me want one in my size!). The waterproof side makes me feel very confident, and again it is easy to wipe and clean if the need should arise. Then there is the quilted side. Once she gets to a fully potty trained point in life, she's still same enough that she will be in this bed for some years to come comfortably and I know that having the extra comfort of that side of the mattress will be well worth it.

Both mattresses fit all the crib sheets we have without issue and I know that both my baby girls are safer on these mattresses than they would be on anything else. With all the history of cancer in my family, it's important to me to do the little things that add up to just a bit more safety every day. After all, isn't the saying that you spend more than a 1/3rd of your life in your bed? Why not make it safe.

Honestly, my only complaint about the 2-in-1 is the weight.

I bought this mattress for my youngest about a month ago. It is fantastic! I wish I would have had it when my other children were younger. I thought at first it was a bit expensive but it is worth every penny!
